washburn is having a great year, but he is a career .500 (w-l) pitcher with an era over 4. i dont know that he is the answer we were looking for as opposed to halladay who is godlike. but, i like that we didnt have to sell the farm to get washburn. i also like that he beat us 2-1 earlier in the year.

i like this deal only if they also pick up a bat. if they don't pick up a bat then we just gave up a major league ready pitcher who will be cheap for 5+ years for a couple expensive months that in the end wont matter at all.

gator, washburn may be prepared to re-sign right back in seattle in the offseason, but the tigers
will very likely receive good draft pick compensation as a result of losing him. he'll probably
qualify for type b free agent compensation. possibly eventype a which is a sandwich pick between
rounds 1 and 2.

gator... this was a great trade for the tigers, but one potential piece of fallout could end up being this: what if it pushes kenny williams to go hard after halladay now? the sox have been really quiet and we know they were looking at a top-tier starting pitcher (peavy). they have top prospects that were going to go to sd, so williams may feel that he has to do something big.
especially if the tigers get a good-hitting corner of.
