DIAMOND GLOVES BOXING SHOWCASE FRIDAY, MARCH 12TH
The Detroit Recreation Department will present its spring amateur Diamond Gloves Boxing Showcase on Fri., March 12, at Northwest Activities Center 18100 Meyers Rd. Bouts will begin at 7 p.m. The Detroit Recreation Department is continuing its rich history of supporting amateur boxing. Many legendary boxers from Joe Louis to Tommy Hearns and coaches and trainers such as Eddie Futch and Alvin “Blue” Lewis, who have been a force in the amateur boxing community, have graced the Detroit Recreation Department boxing gyms. “The Detroit Recreation Department’s renewed commitment to boxing includes the development of a boxing advisory committee. The committee will be responsible for raising awareness and securing funding to promote and expand the program through events such as the Diamond Gloves Showcase”, commented Alicia C. Minter, Detroit Recreation Department Interim Director.
